What do you tell a girl with two black eyes?

… Nothing. You done told the bitch twice! Seriously though, anyone with a dark sense of humor has probably made at least one less-than-tasteful comment regarding the Chris Brown/Rihanna episode earlier this year. Now having watched this interview, I feel like the biggest asshole for doing so… but not for the reason you might think.

Okay, first of all props to Rihanna for leaving an abusive situation & then going on TV to tell her fans a carefully-worded account of what happened and why she left Mr. Brown, twice.

I’m curious if The Last Psychiatrist will have anything to say on the matter – he (at least I think they’re a “he”) tends to offer interesting commentary on celebrity behaviors from time to time. But this post isn’t about him – it’s about me feeling like a prick. Let’s not get sidetracked! I took back everything nasty I said about Britney Spears because she makes good stripper music and is generally a hot mess; I take back everything nasty I said about Rihanna because I think she might actually be doing something good through this interview. Domestic abuse hotlines have reported more than a 50% increase in calls, while domestic abuse hotlines targeted at teens are talking about more than a 70% increase since her full interview aired last week.

I don’t post serious stuff here often, and certainly not about smacking some bitches (everyone knows I think most chicks could use a good shaking) but the fact that there are so many people in physically risky relationships–especially at this age–is seriously worrisome to me. So what I’m saying is if you hit a bitch, I hope you wind up in jail. And if you’re letting someone hit you, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1?800?799?SAFE(7233) or TTY 1?800?787?3224.

I, personally, have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to violence against women. My wife was beaten by her ex husband. He said she deserved it. In the 20 years I have been with her, I have never felt the need to raise my hand to her (I believe I may have raised my voice about 4 times in the same period). H.G. Wells said, “The first man to raise a fist is the man who’s run out of ideas.”

I have 2 sons, one married and one in a long term, many year relationship. I know that they will never hit their women, even though their father hit their mother, I raised them better than that. And even though I have never raised a hand to either one of them, they know the consequences would be like a scene from the movie “Taken” with Liam Neeson.

My daughter is 19. I have had a quiet discussion with each of her more serious boyfriends. I tell them that what happens between them is between them, arguments, lying, cheating, all none of my business (other than that of being a supportive father). However, hitting her would be between him and me, no excuses, no exceptions.

If you are in a relationship and someone is hitting you, it is not your fault. You need to get out and get help, call ?800?799?SAFE(7233). If you are someone who needs to hit women to prove you are the man in the relationship, I’d like to meet you and prove to you that you are really just a bitch. Trust me, you would rather I teach you this than learning it from someone on the inside.
